Fritto Misti

Al La SPAGNOLA

I stayed at Villa Maria (Lemon Farm, Minori) for a couple days once again, and was next going to meet my cousin Tony in Salerno. Tony arrived in Salerno two days before and was hanging out with our cousins Marta and Mimmo who live in Salerno. I told Tony that the ferry boat I was catching was due to arrive in Salerno at 12:30 pm, after quick stops in Maiori and the fishing village of Cetara. It was a nice day, so I quite enjoyed the lovely boat ride along the beautiful Amalfi Coast from Minori to Salerno. The boat arrived and I hopped off and walked down the long path towards the exit of Salerno’s Marine Terminal. I was surprised when, as I was walking, I spotted Tony’s good friend Alan about 100 feet ahead. Then I saw Tony. Alan had a some time off, and flew over to hang out with Tony and I for a few days. It was warm greetings, as its always great to see my cousin Tony, and Alan was a long as well. We threw my bags in the car, and it was off to lunch. When I spoke to Tony on the phone the night before, he told me not to eat before I got there, that he was taking me to some place for lunch. He had told me that Mimmo and Marta brought him there, and that it was a really nice restaurant.

We pulled up to La Spagnola, parked the car, and hopped out. The lady that turned out to be our waitress, greeted us at the door, then brought us to our table. The table had our name on it (Bellino name tag) and we all sat down. The place looked great, and I was excited for a lunch to come.

Antipasto Misti di Mare

Tony handed me the wine-list and said, “pick out a nice Champagne Dan.” OK. I looked the wine list over, browsed the Champagne, as well as other sparkling wines, but it wasn’t Champagne that I chose. I saw the Giulio Ferrari Brut 2004 and thought that would be good, so I said to Tony, “they have some nice Italian Sparkler. What do you think?” Tony said yes, so when the waitress came over I ordered a bottle. A few minutes later, the waitress came back with the wine, I tasted it and so we began our lunch a t La Spagnola. Tony loved the wine, and so did I as well as Alan, and I didn’t know that a created a monster, so-to-speak, as after this, Tony fell in love with the Ferrari, and we’d drink about 6 more bottles before our trip was over.

“Some Tasty Wine”

The waitress started chatting with us about what they had that day, and dishes that she suggested. She asked us if we liked Razor Clams, and also if we wanted a little antipasto plate each of Polpo and the Polpette di Alici (Anchovy Meatballs) that Tony was raving about. We all agreed on that, so the waitress went to get that started for us. So we were chit-chatting, sipping our tasty Ferrari (not Champagne) , and just enjoying our time when the waitress brought us each a lovely plate of Polpo e Pelpette di Alici. Wow, just the sight of the dish got us all going, it so very good, and when I bit into the Sardine Meatball (Polpette d’ Alici) I realized what Tony had been talking about, and why raved so about the dish he had a couple nights before. Well, needless to say, we all loved the dish, the Octopus and Alici were as tasty as can be.

After the antipasti misti, our waitress brought us a 2nd antipasto course, and gave us each a gorgeous looking plate of sauteed Razor Clams each. Dam, they were tasty! And so we enjoyed once again.

And now it was time to ordered our main-course. Alan and I each ordered Spaghetti Vongole and Tony ordered some Orata. When those dishes came, of course they were all superb, and we totally enjoyed them.

Our Antipasto al la Spagnola

Polpette di Alici e Polpo

“Absolutely Awesome!”

Yes, our lunch was a big hit. We had a wonderful waitress, whose service was par excel-lance. The food was as it would turn out, the best I had on our 12 day trip to the Amalfi Coast, in the Summer of 2018 … Yes, we ate in a lot of wonderful restaurants all over the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento Italy. We ate at Buco di Bacco and Da Vincenzo in Positano, we had a few nice meals in Sorrento as well as an awesome lunch at Lo lo Smeraldino in Amalfi which maybe was as good as La Spagnola. Yes, we had the most wonderful lunch out on the deck at Lo Smeraldino. We had an incredible view of Amalfi, we drank Ferrari again, we had a couple awesome waiters taking care of us, and we ate Langostines, Calamari, Cozze, and Grancio (local Crab).

Our Razor Clams at la Spagnola

Yes, I’d have to say that our meal at :a Spagnola in Salerno, Italy was a most memorable one. I will never forget that wonderful lunch I had that day with cousin Tony and our friend Alan. La Spagnola is a gem of a restaurant, and along with Da Marino in Naples, L’Archetto, also in Salerno, Buco di Bacco in Positano, these are my top 4 favorite restaurants in the entire area in Campania that comprises: Napoli, Capri, Ischia, Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano, Minori, and all of the AMalfi Coast of Italy, yes La Spagnola is a very special gem of a restaurant, and so I’d urge anyone staying in Salerno, you must eat here, and the restaurant is certainly worth a pecial trip from anywhere at all on the Amalfi Coast. Wherever you may be on the coast, you can take a nice boat ride to get to Salerno, And you can make a whole day of it, hit a Gelateria, and get a Pizza or Calzone from my buddy Gerardo at his wonderful little Pizzeria / Trattoria L’Archetto, also in Salerno. Just do it !

A Fisherman on his Fishing Boat

CETARA

2018

Maybe this fisherman caught some of the Fish that we ate at La Spagnola or our awesome lunch at Lo Smeraldino in Amalfi.

Cetara is the only true fishing village left on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. It’s a cute little town, and one of the best places to get an awesome Seafood Meal on the Amalfi Coast. There are several wonderful little trattoria’s in town that we highly recommend taking a trip to Cetara. You’ll have a lovely car or boat ride, and one of the best seafood lunches or dinners of your life. Garaunteed!

Note : The fishermen catch all different kinds of fish, but the town is most famous for the Alici (anchovies) caught by the fishing fleet of this town. Besides the wonderful seafood trattoria’s, there are several shops where you can buy the famous Anchovies in bottles as well as the Secret Anchovy Sauce (Colatura) of Cetara.

Italo Stupino is a Top Producer of one of Italy’s most Prestigious Indigenous
Wines, BARBARESCO .. To me he is The KING of BARBARESCO, and I’d
take a Barbaresco made by Italo over one made by Angelo Gaja “Any Day
of The Week” … Italo owns a beautiful Barbaresco producing property
CASTELLO di NEIVE in Neive Peidmonte, Italy …
Italo makes World Class Barbaresco including his base Barbaresco
Castello Neive, Barbaresco Santa Stephano which is a famous
site specific “Single Vineyard” of which Italo is the stole owner ..
A small portion (20%) of this famous vineyard is planted to Barbera, for
his Babera d’Alba Santa Stephano, while the remainder of the vineyard
is planted to Nebbiolo for his famous Barbaresco Santa Stepahano ..

Italo’s Base Barbaresco has quite a great pedigree as well with grapes
coming form the famed Gallina Vineyard and other site specific vineyards.

I sold Italo’s fabulous Barbaresco and Barbera at DeGrezia Restaurant
(New York) for quite some time, and I’m a big advocawhen I was the WIne Direstor at Barbetta Ristorante in New York.
I took a great liking to Italo the minute I met him at a Winebow Portfolio Tatsing years ago. Italo’s Barbaresco ‘s are withou question, “the of the best,” if not the # 1 best producer of Barbaresco wines. At Barbetta, I sold Italo’s
wines all the time, and tell my clients about him, his wonderful wines, and his vineyards.

Recently I got to meet up and chat with my pal Italo at a recent Winebow Tasting in New York. We chatted for a good 20 minutes and learned a few
more things about Italo and his renowned Barbaresco’s and vineyard. Like the fact that his has been producing Blanc Noir Spumante made of 100% Pinot Noir, and that it will be available in New York and the U.S. very soon.

Italo was showing me a beautiful old Map of his Santa Stephano Vineyard that was
drawn-up in 1700  .. He also showed me a current picture of this storied vineyard and he showed me a spot on it where he is growing Hazelnuts along with Barbera and the renowned Nebbiolo for his Barbaresco Santa Stefano ..

Sinatra MY WAY

FRANK SINATRA
MY WAY
.
.
 “MY WAY”

For those of you who may not know “My Way” was written by French Songwriters Claude Francosi and Jacques Revaux. The English Lyrics that Sinatra sings, were written 1967 by Canadian singer / songwriter Paul Anka. Anka heard the song called Comme d Habitude (as Usual), sung by Claude Francois while on vacation in the South of France, and liked it as a potential song. Paul Anka flew to Paris to meet with the song writers, where he obtained adaption, recording, and publishing rights for a mere $1 …

Some time Anka was in Florida having lunch with Sinatra at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach where Sinatra was filing Tony Rome. The story goes Frank was hinging out with some Mobsters, when Anka proposed the song Sinatra. Sinatra told Anka, “I’m quitting the Business. I’m Sick of It. I’m getting the Hell Out.”

Anka rewrote the song one night in New York. Anka recalls that he sat down with his IBM typewriter at 1 O’Clock in the morning. and said to himself, “If Frank were ,writing this song, what would he say?” Anka finished the song by 5 o’clock in the morning. He called up Frank who was at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. Paul told Frank, “I’ve got something special for you.”

Sinatra recorded My Way on December 20, 1968 at Western Recorders Studios in Los Angeles just a few hours before performing a concert at The Sands Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Frank Sinatra’s daughter Tina says that even though My Way became Sinatra’s signature song, he hated it, Tina said “He didn’t like it. The song stuck and he couldn’t get it off his shoe. He always thought the song was self-serving and self-indulgent.”

Paul Aka says that his record producer was bad at Paul that he gave it to Sinatra, and didn’t record it himself, but Anka said he could never sing it. It was for Frank. Sinatra’s recording of My Way has sold 10s of Millions of copies over the year, and is not only a large part of Sinatra’s History (like it or not), American history and part of 100s of millions of Americans and people all over the World who love the song and the memories it holds for them.

Bobby Caldwell is Not Black

BOBBY CALDWELL

“He’S WHITE” !!!
WHAT YOU WON’T DO FOR LOVE

Bobby Caldwell “He’s Not a Black Man” !

He’s White !!!

Dam, just found out a quite Funny Thing? Bobby Caldwell is White. Yes. I love this song, it’s one of my all-time favorites. The song is Fucking Awesome. and I’ve listened to it 1,00 times over the years. I always thought Bobby Caldwell was a black man. He sounded like a black man, and I never really thought about it. Well I love Youtube and I have this music blog “BEST MUSIC EVER” and post all my favorite songs, mostly of the 1960s, 70, and 80s, R&B, POP MUSIC, ROCK & ROLL, and Standards from such greats as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., and the lot, just Great Music and NEVER Any SHITTY HIP HOP RAP CRAP or SHITTY so-called Alternative Rock “Whatever The FUCK That Is?” FUCK, What The FUCK Happened? What the Hell Happened to MUSIC. Why hasn’t anyone made any good music for some 20 years or so now? I just don’t Fucking get it. The 1960s 70s and even 1980s produced such an abundance of great music, “I thought it would never end.” Who knew? Did you? Anyway, Thank God for Records (recordings) and such things, so we don’t have to listen to any SHIT ASS RAP MUSIC or Alternative CRAP! We can listen to all the great recordings of such artists as; The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Dionne Warwick, and on-and-on. I thought it would never end. And so, this is one of the reasons I created this blog, The BEST MUSIC EVER, from the 60s, 1970s and 80s, you NEVER EVER Have to listen to any SHITTY ASS RAP CRAP. Not unless you have SHITTY TASTE, as Millions of people do these this days. That’s the only explanation why such Shitty, talent-less so-called musical artist like; Justin Timberlake “He Sucks,” Taylor Swift “She Sucks,” and HORRIBLE HORRIBLE so-called artist like Kanye West can record SHIT and make Millions, “People have BAD TASTE.” the only explanation.

Anyway, I got off the track a bit. Wasn’t I talking about Bobby Caldwell, his great song What You Won’t Do For Love and the fact that, not only me, but millions of people thought that when they listen to this wonderful romantic song “What You Won’t Do For Love” by Mr. Bobby Caldwell, you were listening to a black man? Hell Yeah, I did. When I was making this post and started reading the comments, I spotted a comment by a women, saying, “Didn’t you think Bobby Caldwell was Black?” Yep. Funny. But then I saw another and another, and another, many comments, all saying basically the same thing, “didn’t you think Bobby Caldwell was black,” When Did You find out that Bobby Caldwell was white, and on-and-on, so many comments saying the same thing, everyone thought Bobby Caldwell was a black man. Don’t believe me? Go check it out on youtube.

Anyway, no matter that Bobby Caldwell isn’t a black man, like most everyone thought. Yes, Bobby Caldwell is white, and his rendition of What You Won’t Do For Love is absolutely awesome, one of the sexiest, most beautiful love songs ever sung, and by a white man who everyone thought was black, the song is just great, and the story quite funny, “What You Won’t Do For Love?”

Basta !

Daniel Bellino Zwicke

More on Bobby

Old myths have a way of sticking around. Especially the one about Bobby Caldwell being black. It’s been 37 years since Caldwell broke through with the soul classic “What You Won’t Do For Love,” and yet, some are still shocked when they find out the singer is white. “Quite honestly, I never thought I sounded black,” says Caldwell. “I thought I sounded like a white guy that was influenced by R&B music. But people would swear up and down I was black. Huge amounts of money were lost in bets.”

Las Vegas
Elton John just announced that he will be extending his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Farewell Tour to four separate venues in the New York / NJ Metropolitan Area in 2020. Elton John will be leading off his New York Area Tour Dates in Manhattan at Madison Square Garden on April 6th and April 7th 2020 .. He will follow these MSG Concerts with two nights at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center on April 10 & 11, then move on to Newark’s Prudential Center for one night on April 15th before heading over to Long Island to perform two nights at Nassau Coliseum on April 17 & 18th. Thank You Elton. “You know we all Love you here in New York and are quite excited and happy that you will be playing all these dates, giving New Yorker’s, Jerseyite’s and anyone else a chance to see you one more time. “I know I’m dam excited, a chance to see another legend, after seeing numerous ones over the years, like: George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, The Allman Brothers Band, The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, Dianna Ross, Crosby Still Nash & Young, BB King, and a few others, now I get to go see you Elton, live and in concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden. I can’t wait.
I just heard the news today, and I’m already phsyched, cue-ing up your music, listening to such songs as Tiny Dancer, Levon, All The Girls Love Allice, Harmony, Funeral For a Friend and more. All the great hits and more. I’ve been listening to your music ever since Madman Across The Water came out, I Loved it, and it was one of the first Rock Albums I bought way back in 1971. I bought the album at the music store Tomko Brothers in Rutherford, New Jersey. Boy these kids these days, don’t know what they’re missing, not being in the culture of buying albums, as we , did back int the 1970. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, or Elton John would come out with a new album, you’d save up your money to get it ($4.99), go down to the record store and get your copy. You’d bring it home, tear off the plastic wrap, check it out, put it on your record player (stereo), and read the liner-notes as you listened along in teenage bliss. “Ah, the Good Ol Days.” Yes these kids today don’t know what they’re missing. And we could afford to got to concerts back then. Well this is a great complaint of mine, and millions of others. The price of concert tickets these days are obscene. What The Fuck?” They are outrageous! People can’t afford to go to concerts . You have to be Rich. This isn’t fare. I wish some of you guys would do something about this, it just isn’t fare. Elton, you’ve got millions. Wouldn’t you consider or think of working people who want to see you but can’t afford the ridiculously F-ing High Prices of Concert Tickets. I’m going to pay the price, it’s a lot for me, but I will pay, I want to go to see you for once, but the prices are just not fare at all. When I was a teenager, and I worked hard and paid for tickets myself to got o concerts, the average price was about $12. The average weekly wages for the average American was about $300 a week in 1974. The average weekly wage is just $700 in 2019, meaning the average weekly wage has gone up just a little more than two times. Not much! Yet the insane prices of Concert Tickets have Skyrocketed to average of $175 per ticket, or about 14 TIMES What they used to be. Wages increased by 2 Times, concert tickets increase 14 Times in the same amount of time. there’s something wrong here? Is it GREED? Again, “WHAT THE FUCK?” Plain and simple, this is wrong. Can you here me ROCK STARS ?

JAGGER KEITH RICHARDS write MIDNIGHT RAMBLER in POSITANO

Positano

Mick

Mick Jagger did an Interview with Rolling Stone Magazine in 1995 .. This little tidbit below is an excerpt from that interview. Mick talks about being on a little vacation in Positano with Keith. They wrote Midnight rambler in that little town on the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy in the Summer of 1968.

Question :  Who wrote “Midnight Rambler”?

Mick Jagger : That’s a song Keith and I really wrote together. We were on a holiday in Italy. In this very beautiful hill town, Positano, for a few nights. Why we should write such a dark song in this beautiful, sunny place, I really don’t know. We wrote everything there – the tempo changes, everything. And I’m playing the harmonica in these little cafes, and there’s Keith with the guitar.

MAN on The MOON

NEIL ARMSTRONG Walks on the MOON

July 20, 1969

“One Small Step for Man , One Giant Leap for Mankind”

As American Astronaut Neil Armstrong takes his first step on the Moon and does a Moon walk on July 20th in the Year of Our Lord 1969.

Yes, those historic words were spoke by Neil Armstrong “One Small Step for Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind,” as he his first steps on the surface of the Moon, a feat never realize by any man in the entire history of the World up to that point, and a feat only achieved by a handful of men to this very day July 20th on the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing and man walking upon the surface of our Moon.

I was just 11 years old when I watched the television as the great newsman Walter Cronkite commentated the events on CBS News as the Eagle Landed on Tranquility Base, Cronkite commentated as Neil Armstrong came out of the Lunar Lander “The Eagle” walked down the ladder and set his foot on the surface of the Moon. It was quite exciting for a boy of just 11 years to watch. I was witnessing one of mankind’s most historical event ever, live, watching this monumental event play out on TV for people to watch live as it was happening all over the world. And here I am today, a man of 61, and remembering back to that day.

We were over my mother’s good friend Josie Romeo’s house in North Arlington, New Jersey. We were there for a Summer weekend visit, and the Apollo 11 space capsule was already orbiting the Moon. The Romeo’s had just put in a nice Cabana Pool, and we were hanging out there most of the day. I remember eating Watermelon on the deck of the pool, which for me always seemed like a special treat every time we had some, and this time was no different. I loved my watermelon.

I specifically can still remember two of my favorite songs that were popular in the Summer of 69. One was actually just that. The song was “One” by Three Dog Night, “One is The Loneliest Number,” I guess speaking of being alone. The other big song was “These Eyes” by the Guess Who. Other hit songs in the Summer of 1969 were: Grazing in The Grass by The Friends of Distinction, People Got to Be Free by The Rascals, and a very weird song to me, In The Year 2525. Also popular that year, were GET BACK by The Beatles, and Honky Tonk Woman by The Rolling Stones.

The year 1969 was quite a year for New Yorker’s. The New York Jets had already won the Superbowl in January, led by brash quarterback Joe Namath.  New York’s National League baseball team The Mets would go on to Win The World Series of Baseball in 1969 and the New York Knicks basketball team would win the NBA Championship in 1970 for the 1969 / 1970 basketball season. Yes it was quite a year for New York.

We spent 100s of Happy Hours playing WIFFLE BALL, me and all my friends at the Cornelia Street Playground in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Playing WIffle Ball, as well as playing Touch Football, and Basketball, also on Cornelia Street was one of our favorite pastimes. We playes STCK BALL once in a while, but we highly favored WIFFLE BALL over Stickball. One problem, as kids that didn’t have a lot of money, was when the Spalding or Wiffle Ball would break in-half, and we’d all have to chip on our nickels and dimes and any money we could get our hands on, and go to the Candy Store to buy a new ball in order to keep playing the game.

When buying the Wiffle Ball, if we had any money left we’d get and Ice Cream Bar, or candy. Candy Bars were just a Nickel back then, and an Ice Cream Sandwich or Ice Cream Bar was 10 Cents. But, we usually reserved getting the ice cream from Fritz the Good Humor Ice Cream Man who always came by the playground and we dive into the cool looking Good Humor Ice Cream Truck to get our Ice Cream of Choice. Ah, “The Good Old Days,” simpler happy times growing up in 1960s and 70s America. These were some of the things we’d do. And “Oh My God,” the music was so Wonderful back then. “Not Like The Crap” they make these days (21st Century MUSIC SUCKS).

AMY WINEHOUSE

AMY WINEHOUSE

“LOVE is a LOSING GAME”

Listen to this soulful performance by Amy Winehouse, singing Love is a Losing Game at the Brit Awards. She’s pouring her heart out over her low-life husband Blake, who it is widely believed was the person who got her onto hard drugs and a path towards a downward spiral of ill health.

The official coroners report stated that Amy died of Alcohol Toxicity from consuming a too much alcohol and too short a time, in affect poisoning her body and bloodstream. The autopsy confirmed that Winehouse had 350mg of alcohol in her bloodstream causing her death.

Amy had many daemons, so they say, she struggle with Drug Addiction, Alcohol addiction and Bulimia. Sadly Amy didn’t make it. She was unable to overcome her daemons before she died. There have been many Rock Stars who have had huge drug problems and still made it. They abused drugs, but didn’t die and cleaned up their acts in time to prevent dying. Case in point Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, and most famous of all Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. Amy and others, such as; Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, and Jim Morrison of The Doors. Sadly, unlike others who made it, these artists were unable to get clean before their apparent deaths including Amy Winehouse. Amy Winehouse was a great talent. It would have been wonderful if she made it past that critical point that took her bright life.

We remember Amy Winehouse, by listening to her music, and soulful recordings as we pray for her soul, and lament her not making it. God Bless Amy.

Sadly for Amy Winehouse
